Built in the early twentieth century, by Sri Krishnappa Nayakar, this temple commemorates the annual Sri Gangamma Jatre and Karaga Utsava, which continues to be held for three days every July, with close to 300,000 devotees in attendance. The life-size idol, made of stone, sits in a newly renovated Mandapa, with a towering golden Gopuram. Many special Poojas are performed here, notably, the Chandrika Havana, and the rituals on Full Moon and New Moon days. The five-day-long Ashada Utsava culminates in a spectacular Pallaki Utsava. Renowned musicians often perform in the temple.
